OCSO Seeking Vehicle Information in Pedestrian Involved Crash (2017/05/07)

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is looking for additional information in an accident that took place near the intersection of Highway 98 and Palmetto Drive in Destin around 3:45 a.m. May 7th.

Deputies initially believed the injuries suffered by 22 year old Tyler Ponthieux of Dryprong Louisiana occurred after he tripped and fell on Highway 98. He had abrasions, road rash, and a head injury. He is currently being treated at UAB Hospital (University of Alabama at Birmingham).

A "witness" had told deputies on the scene that he saw the victim fall and hit his head and did not see him get hit by any vehicle. He also added that Ponthieux hit the pavement hard. The original response was closed out as a medical call, not a traffic crash.

However, the OCSO later learned that the physician who treated Ponthieux said his head injuries would not have come from someone tripping and falling to the ground.

Based upon statements by doctors as well as other evidence obtained, deputies now have reason to believe Ponthieux was struck by a vehicle.

Anyone with information on the incident or the identity of the driver is asked to call the OCSO at 850-651-7400 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-TIPS, emeraldcoastcrimestoppers.com, or by using the P3 Tips Mobile application.

OCSOTrying to Identify Battery & Attempted Carjacking Suspect (2017/04/07)

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Deputies are looking for the public’s assistance in their efforts to identify a man who battered a woman in the parking lot of Santa Rosa Mall during an attempted carjacking April 7th.

Deputies were called to the mall around 10:30 a.m. and made contact with the 44 year old woman and her mother. The victims say they arrived at the mall and parked at the Food Court entrance. When the daughter, who was a passenger in the front seat, opened her door she says a white male in his forties rushed over with his hand up his shirt as if holding a weapon. He had navy colored underwear on his head. He stated three times to "get in the car." The woman refused and pushed him away. She says he then grabbed her and pulled her out. He got into the car and started yelling at the woman’s 82-year old mother, who was still in the driver’s seat. The daughter immediately ripped at the suspect’s clothes, neck, and arms to get him away from her mom. She says she pulled him out of the car and began hitting him, yelling to attract attention. The man ran from the scene towards Ruby Circle.

On May 23rd, OCSO investigators worked with the victim to create a sketch of the suspect. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is now seeking the public`s assistance in attempts to identify the individual.
